Brainspotting

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting (BSP) is a powerful, brain-based therapy that helps people access, process, and release emotional pain, trauma, and limiting beliefs that are often held deep in the body and nervous system. Discovered by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting builds on the principles of eye movement therapies and neuroscience. The core idea is simple but profound: where you look affects how you feel. By identifying specific “brainspots”  or eye positions connected to emotionally charged experiences, a trained therapist helps the brain naturally process and heal unresolved memories or sensations.

How it works

During a Brainspotting session, the therapist guides you to notice how you feel while gently exploring different eye positions. When a brainspot is found, you may experience sensations, emotions, or memories related to that spot. This process helps your brain to “unfreeze” stored trauma and reorganize it in a healthier, more adaptive way.

Brainspotting engages the body’s self-healing capacity, working with both the brain and the nervous system to resolve deep emotional wounds, often more efficiently than talk therapy alone.

What to expect

Sessions are typically calm, focused, and client-led. You remain in control at all times, and there’s no need to relive traumatic events in detail. Instead, your therapist helps you stay present and grounded as your brain does the work of healing beneath the surface.

Most clients describe Brainspotting as a deeply insightful, body-based, and transformative experience.
